Richard Thompson Time

May 29, 2007

DadToday sees the (US) release of Richard Thompson’s new album, Sweet Warrior. John Mulvey’s review at Uncut includes a brief interview with RT.

The piece opens by noting a 40th anniversary. “On May 27, 1967, Fairport Convention played their first gig in a Golders Green church hall, with Thompson – a gangling, diffident 18-year-old – on lead guitar.”

The new album features a full band, with RT’s electric guitar prominent on most of the 14 songs. I really enjoyed my first couple of listens, but then, RT is my favorite musician. You can find links to real reviews, along with MP3s and other good stuff, at RT’s site. (That’s where I’m grabbing the image from the single, or lead track, or whatever they call it these days.)
