Spider Webware Foundation

September 13, 2007

spiderwebcommons.jpgThis web is a work of cooperation between multiple species of spider. However, it does seem that much of the work is due to Long-jawed Orb Weaver spiders (family Tetragnathidae), and much of that to females working the night shift.

It is an impressive example of cooperation, although I might be less impressed if I was a fly, trapped in the web and muttering to myself about the tragedy of the commons. Also impressed are Glyn Moody, David Pescovitz, and Texan entomologists.
