Orkut is one of several social silos, with Facebook and MySpace being other such silos. So why is Orkut interesting? It’s big in some countries, such as Brazil. It’s owned by Google. It’s recently been redesigned.
Pete Cashmore, remarking on the redesign of Orkut, stifled a yawn and stated that what’s we’re really hoping for from Google is the launch of SocialStream, the aggregated social network. More recently, he remarked that it is likely that SocialStream’s features will just be added to Orkut and not launched separately.
So I joined Orkut after all…
