Last.fm, Bloggers, and Commenters

The big story of the day at Techmeme is that: As of today, you can play full-length tracks and entire albums for free on the Last.fm website. Many prominent blogs picked up on this right away: TechCrunch, for example.

If you want to be early with the news, you don’t have time to check the news. It looks as though many bloggers relayed the message from Last.fm without taking the time to go to the site and see how much music there was available on “full length for free” terms. My own experience is that there’s still a lot of 30-second samples there. Comments on the original post (see first link in the current post) bear this out.

Last.fm seems to have got a little ahead of itself with its announcement post. Some people who should know better echoed this, rather than first checking it.
