Duck Tour of the Oceans

No, this does not refer to an ambitious new offering from Boston Duck Tours.

I refer to the Friendly Floatees. Here’s how their story is told at Strange Maps.

On January 10, a container holding almost 29,000 plastic bath toys spills off a cargo ship into the middle of the Pacific Ocean and breaks open. The unsinkable toys, which were en route from Hong Kong to Tacoma (Washington), include a lot of iconic yellow rubber ducks that have since been caught up in the world’s ocean currents and continue turning up on the most improbable shores.

Although there is no longer a $100 bounty on the beak of each Floatee, they have been known to fetch 10 times that at auction. That seems reasonable, given that some of them successfully got past the spot where the Titanic sank. I expect James Cameron to start on the Floatinator movie soon.
