Glen Philips was/is the frontman of Toad the Wet Sprocket. One of his subsequent projects is the “expandable collective” Works Progress Administration (WPA). I found out about WPA via the wonderful Heather Browne.
Glen is joined at the core of the collective by Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek) and Luke Bulla (Lyle Lovett). So WPA is much more country than Toad. Take a listen.
You might be surprised to see a music widget at WordPress.com. Perhaps I should say that I am surprised, given my host’s caution when it comes to such things. But the widget itself presents WordPress.com as a means of sharing, and gives code including the shortcode bandcamp.
Now, bandcamp is not on the list of WordPress.com shortcodes. But it seems to work. I’m not sure how official or durable the shortcode is. I posted more than a year ago about the clearspring_widget shortcode. That shortcode never did get documented, and I doubt that it ever will be (for reasons I’ll go into in a different post, if I get round to it).
To conclude: I recommend WPA; I applaud Bandcamp, the service; I’m not sure about the shortcode.
